Guwahati, Jun 02: In continuing ethnic clashes in Assam's North Cachar Hills district, 14 houses of Hmar people were burnt down by suspected Dimasa miscreants, police said today. District police said one of the houses burnt yesterday was occupied by a Hmar family while the rest were abandoned ones at Bethel village, near district headquarters Haflong.

All the occupants in the burnt house were safe, they added.

On May 31, two Dimasas were killed and four others injured in the district by suspected Hmar miscreants, who also set ablaze 30 houses at Longreng village near Haflong.

Meanwhile, the curfew imposed in the area following the incident was relaxed today between 10 am and 2 pm and no untoward incident had been reported so far, they added.

North Cachar Hills and neighbouring Cachar district have been the scene of ethnic clashes between Dimasa and Hmar community people recently claiming several lives.
