Lucknow, Nov 11: Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh today courted arrest along with hundreds of his supporters when they were stopped from moving towards Raj Bhawan in connection with party's state-wide protest demanding dismissal of the Mayawati government. Amar Singh, on his arrival here, drove to Hazratganj area to lead SP workers who had assembled there to gherao Raj Bhawan, police sources said.

Before courting arrest, Amar Singh alleged he along with party's Uttar Pradesh unit general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav were manhandled by some people at the behest of police at Amausi Airport. He said the "dictatorial attitude" of Mayawati government and its "repressive measures" would not succeed in gagging the voice of the people of the state.
