New Delhi, May 16: Buoyed by the growth in animation market, Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), animation and special effects training division of Maya Entertainment Ltd, plans to add 20 new centres in the domestic and overseas market in 2004-05.
In the overseas market, MAAC plans to open centres in Dubai, Colombo, Bangkok, Dhaka and Kathmandu.
"While the Dubai training centre is almost finalised, other overseas centres are expected to come up by the end of the current financial year," MAAC vice-president Naveen Gupta told reporters here.
MAAC, a division of Maya Entertainment promoted by director Ketan Mehta and actress Deepa Shahi, is expecting to more than triple its turnover from Rs 6.5 crore in 2003-04 to Rs 20 crore in 2004-05.
With India emerging as a preferred destination for outsourcing, the domestic animation production industry is estimated to touch 1.5 billion dollars in 2005, leading to a greater demand for animators.

"The animation market is surging with the growth of outsourcing by foreign companies and also due to the increasing number of TV channels in India and special effects in Bollywood movies. There is a severe shortage of trained animators in the country," Gupta said.

MAAC, which began its operations in 2001, currently has 30 centres. The training centres work on a franchisee model and in some cases even by MAAC itself, he pointed out.
