Hyderabad, June 26: Condemning the alleged police firing on farmers in Ranga Reddy district of Andhra Pradesh yesterday, main opposition Congress and BJP today charged the ruling TDP with lack of perspective towards problems of farmers. "The high-handed behaviour of police against the farmers, who are being harassed by state officials while distributing seeds, is highly objectionable", state Congress President M Satyanaryana Rao and BJP floor leader n Indraseena Reddy told reporters here. Five farmers were injured, two of them seriously, when police allegedly opened fire to disperse a mob that attacked a police station following an altercation earlier. Rao and Congress floor leader Y S Rajsekhar Reddy visited the hospital where the injured farmers were being treated.

Alleging the state lacks proper planning and a viable agricultural policy, Reddy said the inefficiency of the state in distributing seeds led to yesterday's incident at Chevella. "It is very pathetic on part of the state to use bullets on farmers, who came to collect seeds", Reddy said, blaming TDP for its inefficiency in distribution of seeds to farmers on time and using force to crush the dissent.

Reddy had started his recently concluded `Padayatra' from the same Chevella town and covered 11 districts highlighting the failures of TDP.
