Chandigarh, Nov 29: The Punjab government today promulgated Section 144 of the CrPC in Ropar district in the wake of anticipated appearance of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his family members in the court of additional district and sessions judge at Ropar on December 01, in the alleged corruption case. Section 144 of the CrPC has been promulgated in the whole of Ropar district to check unlawful assemblies, a statement quoting Punjab DGP A A Siddiqui said here.
Duty magistrates have been deployed and additional premises have been designated as jails to counter any attempts by the protesters to intimidate the courts, he said.
Siddiqui said adequate security arrangements have been made all over the state to deal with the situation firmly.
More than 1000 security personnel specially trained for riot control have been mobilized for deployment in Ropar alone in addition to the force already available with the district and Ludhiana range, he said.
Special "nakas" have been planned and patrolling has been intensified to ensure that the public is not put to any inconvenience by the agitators by indulging in traffic blockades and "dharnas".
Meanwhile more than 100 Akali Dal activists were today rounded up in the Ropar district as a preventive measure in view of the planned "show of strength" during Badal's presence in the court at Ropar on December 01. Bureau Report
