New Delhi, Sep 16: Longjump star Anju Bobby George, who created history becoming the first Indian to win a medal in a World Athletic Championship in Paris last month-end, returned to a warm welcome here last night.
"I am very happy," a beaming Anju told ecstatic fans who thronged the airport to greet the ace athlete.
World no. 6 Anju, who won a bronze medal in Paris, was accompanied by her husband and coach Robert Bobby George as the couple returned to New Delhi after participating in the World Athletics final in Monaco Sunday.
"It was Anju's hard work and determination which won her the bronze medal," Bobby George told reporters at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. "We are looking beyond next year's Olympics in Athens. For her sky is the limit," Bobby said as his voice got drowned in the chants of hundreds of fans who jostled for space to garland and touch India's top athlete.

Bobby had a tough time shielding Anju from the fans as youngsters - carrying national flags, marigold garlands and welcome banners - crowded to get near Anju.

A complete lack of crowd control meant total chaos at the airport as reporters and photographers struggled for room outside the arrival lounge.
