Moscow, Nov 11: As Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee arrives here on a three-day visit, Russia has called for lifting of sanctions against India on the supply of nuclear technologies. "It is high time to review bans on nuclear co-operation with India imposed in 1992 by the nuclear suppliers group (NSG)," Russian atomic energy ministry said today ahead of National Security Advisor Brajesh Mishra's scheduled meeting with atomic energy minister Alexander Rumyantsev.

Brajesh Mishra arrived here on Saturday to finalise the agenda of Indo-Russian summit tomorrow.

According to atomic energy ministry spokesman, Rumyantsev and Mishra will discuss Indo-Russian co-operation in the 'peaceful use of nuclear energy'.

"Besides the ongoing construction of two vver-1000 mega watt light water reactors at Kudankulam nuclear power plant, India wants four more such reactors for power generation, but Russia's hands are tied until NSG sanctions are eased," a spokesman for the atomic energy ministry said, noting that Kudankulam deal was signed before Russia joined NSG in 1992.
