Bhubaneswar, Dec 05: The winter session of the Orissa Assembly began on a stormy note today as the opposition Congress stalled its functioning demanding that the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik should come under the purview of the CBI inquiry into the controversial Judeo tapes as his name figured in it. The house, which paid rich tributes to three former members, Ananta Narayan Singhdeo, Dr. Krupasindhu Bhoi, Achyutananda Mohanty and two army jawans, B N Baral and C B Biswal who passed away recently, soon lapsed into pandemonium as the congress members descended into the well in support of their demand.
They insisted that the matter should be discussed first by suspending the question hour and shouted slogans even as the minister for panchayatiraj, Damodar Rout rose to answer a question.
But rising over the din, the leader of opposition Ramakanta Mishra said that since the Chief Minister's name had been mentioned in the videotape, he should come under the purview of the CBI's investigation.
He was heard saying that the house would not be allowed to function unless the congress demand was accepted.
