Madrid, Feb 01: The East-West German comedy 'Good bye, Lenin' from Wolfgang Becker was named best European film in the 18th Goya prize film awards from the Spanish film industry.

Miguel Morales, the Spanish firm that represented Becker at the awards yesterday, said the melodramatic scenes from the fall of the Berlin Wall had found resounding echo in Spain, where it has been running in the cinemas for four months.
''This is a sign for the strength of German cinema and the European film in general,'' he said. Bureau Report
