A US B-52 bomber pounded Taliban positions on Thursday around Kunduz, the last stronghold of the Islamic militia in northern Afghanistan.
A reporter in this town east of Kunduz, capital of the province of the same name, saw the b-52 unleash its deadly payload on Taliban positions at 0830 IST.
Taliban fighters, estimated to number several thousands, and Northern Alliance troops had exchanged rocket and mortar fire in the area on Wednesday evening.
