Former union minister and senior Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia was feared killed along with seven others, mostly mediapersons, when their chartered plane crashed under Bhogaon Police Station in Mainpuri district on Sunday. Official sources in Lucknow said that the chartered plane, carrying Scindia for a `parvirtan yatra` of the Congress, was on its way to Kanpur when it crashed. The other people on board the plane included, apart from Scindia, his personal secretary Rupinder Singh, journalists Anju Sharma (The Hindustan Times), Gopal Bisht, Ranjan Jha (Aaj Tak) and Sanjeev Sinha (The Indian Express). Confirming the names, Hussain said that the plane was piloted by Ray Gautam and his co-pilot was Ritu. Sources said that the plane crashed near a river and it was raining heavily in the area. Rescue teams are yet to reach the spot.
The sources, however, believe that the chance of any survivors in the crash was slim. Bureau Report
