Nagpur, June 14: A major train derailment was averted today when alert villagers stopped the Nagpur-Bhusawal passenger a few metres before a `welding failure' between Butibori and Borkhedi stations of Central Railway.
"Villagers noticed a welding failure and promptly showed a red cloth to draw the attention of the engine crew. The train was stopped just short of the fracture", a spokesman of the CR's Nagpur division said here.

A team of engineering personnel including the Permanent Way Inspector (PWI) of the section rushed to the spot and restored the traffic.
