Tinsukia, Oct 03: Assam Frontier Ltd, the managers of
Khobang tea estate, and Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangh have reached
an understanding over payment of bonus to the workers,
bringing an end to the lockout that was clamped after
the September 30 violence.
Five labourers had been killed in police firing during an
agitation over puja bonus on September 30.
Official sources said the withdrawal of lockout followed
an understanding between the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangh and the
garden management that the bonus would be paid at 15 per cent.
ACMS Secretary Madhusudan Khondait said the dispute over
bonus had been almost settled across the state, and he called
upon the tea workers to accept the rate of bonus as agreed
upon between the Sangh and the various tea managements.
Assam Frontier Ltd had declared an indefinite lockout
after the September 30 violence.
