New Delhi, July 16: Leading Kashmiri singer Gulam Nabi Sheikh, who had gone missing since Monday while on a train journey from Jammu to New Delhi, was found dead in mysterious circumstances near Mookeria railway station in Punjab.
The body of Sheikh, a programme executive with Prasar Bharti's 'Radio Kashmir', was found near the railway tracks two kms away from the station, family members said here quoting the information received from the Punjab authorities.
Sheikh, aged about 50 years, had boarded the Shalimar Express at Jammu Tawi station at 2045 hours on Sunday along with his daughter, Huma, who was to join a journalism course here and a family friend Jawahar Lal Saroor. The three had dinner on board the train before going to sleep at around 2100 hours. More than four hours after the train left Jammu, Huma discovered that her father was not on his berth. Thinking that he may have moved to some other coach, Huma and Saroor did not take up the matter with the railway staff on board.
On reaching here at 1100 hours on Monday, they searched all the coaches and there was no trace of Sheikh.
