New Delhi, Apr 03: As a tribute to "martyrs of space flight efforts" like Kalpana Chawla and others, an exhibition on space is being organised here at the Nehru Planetarium. "The exhibition, titled `The Ascent' is dedicated to the memory of Kalpana Chawla and is being organised as a tribute to martyrs of space flight efforts," Nehru Planetarium director Dr N Rathnasree said.
It is a retrospective exhibition on space flights, Rathnasree said adding it would be inaugurated on Tuesday. Besides giving a brief historical overview of the beginnings of space flight efforts starting from medieval rocketry to the first few modern day space flights, the exhibition would highlight some landmarks in manned space flights, she said.
It would also include events related to explorations of terrestrial planets such as mercury, Venus and Mars, she said in a release. There is a section on mishaps, she said adding, "Space endeavours have been interspersed with sometimes tragic accidents and heroic efforts at rescuing trapped astronauts. These incidents have been compiled together as a tribute to the bravery of and sacrifice of those involved in these endeavours." Bureau Report
