Madhavan was dancing to the tunes of BCCI: Azhar`s counsel

Hyderabad, June 11: Arguments in a suit filed by former cricket captain Mohd Azharuddin, seeking various reliefs including setting aside of the life ban imposed against him by the cricket board for match fixing, continued for the second day today.
Azharuddin's counsel P Jagdish pleaded before the second additional chief judge, city civil court, that K Madhavan, former CBI director, who was entrusted by BCCI to conduct an inquiry against him, had no knowledge of cricket nor has he any understanding about the basics of the game. Hence, he is not competent to hold an inquiry against the cricketer.
The counsel alleged that Madhavan was chosen by BCCI president Muthaiah not on account of great expertise but because of the fact that he was willing to play into his hands. "He was literally dancing to the tunes of the BCCI which had predecided to disqualify Azharuddin."
He contended that Madhavan did not afford any fair opportunity to Azharuddin to counter the serious allegations levelled against him which touched upon his character, integrity and above all his commitment to the game of cricket.
Even before a punishment could be inflicted upon him (Azharuddin) by selective attacks, BCCI and Madhavan had mollified the image of the former captain.
In the absence of any clear-cut guidelines, the counsel asked as to what is the core issue which would be examined and inquired by Madhavan. Even while Azharuddin was being examined in a close compact room in a hotel, Madhavan used to interact with the press and revealed the outcome of his examination.
