Lucknow, May 27: Stressing that the government would not allow commercialisation of education, Union HRD minister Murli Manohar Joshi today said those wanting to give funds to
the state-owned educational institutions would have to take it
into confidence.
"The government must know what the money is meant for and
who will be accountable for that money," Joshi told reporters
here.
He said, “The ‘India education fund' was meant for those wishing to contribute to institutions imparting specialised education and the government would welcome contributions, but we must know about the project for which the money was meant for." Joshi's reply came in response to a question about the government's refusal to allow an NRI to give funds to one of the IITs in the country.
"IITs are government institutions and we must know why they (NRIs) are giving them the money," he said. Bureau Report
