New Delhi, Feb 27: Confederation of All Indian Traders (CAIT) call for closure of all trading establishments in Delhi today to protest introduction of VAT by Union govt on April 1. Praveen Khandelwal, General Secretary of CAIT said, “The decision was taken on Saturday after appeal by Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mahamandal.” Khandelwal claims, “All traders organisation in Delhi are supporting the bandh all markets will be closed.”
CAIT would also observe next week as VAT opposition week. Introduction of VAT would usher in a uniform sales tax system through out the country. But Delhi traders oppose the new system fearing that their business would be h it as the sales tax in Delhi is lower than what is being charged in several other parts of the country.
