Riyadh, Mar 22: The US ambassador to Saudi Arabia today said in a message to the Saudi people that the US-led war on Iraq is not directed against Islam or to wrest control of oil, but to oust the regime of Saddam Hussein. "This is not about Islam. It is not about oil. It is not about occupation. The war is about ridding the world of the dangers posed by Saddam Hussein, both to the international community and to the beleaguered people of Iraq," Robert Jordan said in his message. The United States has come under severe criticism in Saudi Arabia, Washington's key ally in the Gulf, with religious groups and scholars calling for jihad, or holy war, against US forces. "This war is about freeing the people of Iraq. We will demonstrate that we intend to liberate Iraq and safeguard its territorial integrity," the ambassador said in a bid to allay fears that Washington is planning to change the political map of the region.
