Kolkata, Dec 21: A major fire erupted in the city`s business hub Burrabazar, gutting a large number of shops today morning.
Fire brigade sources said 40 fire tenders have been battling the blaze since 1:18 am (IST) as the fire was yet to be brought under control.
There was no report of any casualty so far.
The fire erupted in a multi-storeyed building and soon got spread to the shops located nearby, the sources said.
Fire brigade sources alleged that the firemen were accused by the agitated local people for arriving late, which caused some delay in the rescue work.

However, police helped disperse the crowd which facilitated smooth fire fighting operation, the sources said. The cause of the fire and extent of damage were not immediately known.
Meanwhile, police have cordoned-off the entire area close to M G Road, to keep the crowd at bay. Bureau Report
