Panaji, Feb 07: A two-day All-India Konkani music festival is being organised here at Patto from today with an aim to unite all Konkani speaking people spread over four states and to focus on their creative talents. The Konkani Sangeet and Natak Akademi is organising the event. Chairman of the festival's reception committee Tomazinho Cardozo told mediapersons here yesterday said besides Goa, troupes from neighbouring Maharashtra and Karnataka were also expected to take part in the fest.
The highlight on the opening day will be presentation of 'drums of Goa', an orchestra of drums, 'ghumats', 'madhallem', 'tablas' and other percussion instruments, demonstrating the root sounds of Konkani music.
Well-known singers will pay tribute to Chris Perry and Afred Rose, maestros of Konkani songs and tiatro by singing their songs. Pandit Jitendra Abhisekhi song would be sung by various artists on the occasion. This production will be a retrospective and tribute to Pt Abhisekhi.
On February 08, a presentation will be made on traditional folk culture in Shigmo, Intruz and weddings of the Konakni people.
