Report : Rajesh K Sundaram, New York, September 26

The Indian consulate in New York has started sending DNA identification kits and forms to India to facilitate Indians seeking death certificates and help in the identification of human remains from the World Trade towers wreckage. The consulate`s especially designed web site, www.indiacgny.com, which gives out information for victims` families has received close to 2 million hits since it was created a little over two weeks ago. India`s general counsel in New York, Shashi Tripathi, and her staff have worked hard over the past few weeks as relatives of Indians and people of Indian origin living in New York have flooded its phone lines with calls. Most of the team`s work now revolves around helping Indians, both in India and in the US with formalities regarding obtaining death certificates and identification of the human remains that come out of the world trade towers` wreckage.
The Indian consulate in New York is also taking up issues related to assaults and racial slurs against Indians with local and federal authorities. Tripathi says the response has been very good so far...the consulate is also reaching out to the media.

When Zee News spoke with Indian victims of the twin tower tragedy they were appreciative of the help rendered by the Indian consulate.
