New Delhi, May 14: BJP held its parliamentary board meeting today to assess the results of Lok Sabha elections. The meeting was attended by all top leaders including L K Advani, Jaswant Singh, Pramod Mahajan and Murli Manohar Joshi. While terming these electoral results as “totally unexpected”, BJP spokesperson Venkaiah Naidu refused to admit that anti-incumbency worked against the NDA, which led to their dismal performance.

He said that neither experts nor masses could have predicted such an outcome and obviously everyone was taken by surprise.

Naidu said that despite the defeat, NDA has full faith in its leadership. He expressed satisfaction over NDA’s performance in its five-year rule.
He said the party would fully analyse the poll outcome, reasons for failure and where it could not meet the aspirations of the masses.

Outlining future course of action, Naidu said that executive meetings would be held in all states, which would be attended by the representative of the high command to get a detailed review of the results and state-wise performance of party units.
Following this exercise, the parliamentary board would meet for further analysis.

Naidu asked mediapersons to take a comprehensive view of party’s performance nationwide. He said that it should not be missed that the party has done very well in certain Congress ruled states like Kerala, Punjab and Karnataka.

On their future plans he said, “We sat in Opposition for 45 years and ruled the country for six years, both were a unique experiences. We humbly accept the people’s verdict and would sit in Opposition for next five years.”
Naidu also raised questions over workability of the Congress-Left alliance when the two were at odds in several states.
