Jabalpur, Sept 21: Five prisoners including a life convict escaped today from Damoh district jail, about 100 km from here, district collector S K Ved said. The life convict and four undertrials cut the iron bars and escaped by scaling the high walls surrounding the jail premises early this morning, Ved said here. Two prison warders have been suspended for negligence of duty and a magisterial inquiry ordered to ascertain the circumstances leading to the disappearance of the five, he said, adding the probe would be conducted by senior deputy collector. Police have sealed all important incoming and outgoing streets while a massive hunt has been launched to nab the prisoners, Ved said.
Police forces in adjoining districts have also been alerted and asked to keep a strict vigil. Investigation is in progress. Bureau Report
