Jaipur, May 02: Congress leader Renuka Choudhary today demanded resignations of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Union Law minister Arun Jaitley owing to their moral responsibility for post-Godhra carnage. Quoting retired Chief Justice of India V N Khare's statement that post-Godhra riot cases were "shocking and hurting" and the Supreme Court saved justice in Gujarat, she said the riots were a "matter of national shame".
"If they (Modi and Jaitley) feel little bit of shame and insult on account of complete failure of law and order situation in Gujarat's post-Godhra riots, the duo should not stick to their Kursi," Choudhary told reporters here.
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee "who was also riding on Modi's shoulders...should not lead the country," she said. "It is stunning that after the CJI's stinging attack, the Prime Minister still wants to lead the party of 'anti-social elements' in the Lok Sabha polls," she said, adding "holding Modi and Jaitely responsible for the Gujarat carnage... Vajapyee should either retire or resign".
Choudhary said the RSS was a "symbol of anti-nationalism" in Gujarat and we are completely shaken up as the innocent people were allegedly murdered".
She said if Modi is invited for poll meetings she would face him directly. On the recent agricultural devastation due to squall and hailstorms, Choudhary said the Centre should provide cash relief to farmers who lost their crops in the fields. The fruit and vegetable crops in all states were ruined due to sudden weather change, hence the Centre should consider it as national calamity, she said.
The Congress leader said the BJP has to go this time as corruption has been rampant and the "nation can not be saved as long as the BJP-led NDA government survives".
On BJP president M Venkaiah Nadu's remark that Congress was a "duplicate party", she said "kamal to brashtachar, Godhra aur gandgi par khila hai...Voh kya jane freedom struggle movement (lotus is blooming on corruption, Godhra and garbage...What do they know about freedom struggle)".
She said Congress was in upbeat mood in Andhra Pradesh as Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu would lose his majority.
The NDA government had no understanding of ground realities of agriculture in the country, hence thousands of farmers allegedly committed suicide, she added.
