Chennai, Nov 20: Contending that the Supreme Court's
indictment of the Tamil Nadu's judicial system amounted to
break down of constitutional machinery in the state, DMK today
demanded the resignation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister
Jayalalithaa owning moral responsibility for it.
DMK President M Karunanidhi told reporters here tonight
that the Centre should ask explanation from the state
government for the present situation in the state.
"Offer explanation or quit," he told Jayalalithaa.
He said judiciary, executive and legislature stood equal
before the constitution and indication of any one amounted
constitutional break down.
However, he was evasive in replying to a specific question whether he demanded the dismissal of the Tamil Nadu government on charges of constitutional break down.
He said if Jayalalithaa felt it below her dignity to resign, she should at least dissolve the state assembly and seek a fresh manadate from the people.

Asked whether the postponement of the agitation against
Pota by a fortnight amounted to a concession to the BJP, he
said it was not a concession to any one. The postponement was
only to ensure full involvement of party cadre on deletion and
addition of voters in the electoral roll.
"We have to be vigilant against the malpractices of the
ruling party during the summary revision of the rolls", he
said.
