Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is likely to go to Jammu and Kashmir on May 22, in a visit that is considered highly significant both in the context of forthcoming elections and the troops build up on borders. He will be accompanied by Home Minister L K Advani and Defence Minister George Fernandes.
Before going to the Valley on Wednesday for a two-day visit, Vajpayee is likely to visit Jammu, which witnessed a ghastly carnage on May 14 that left 32 people, including Army personnel and their family members dead, sources said.
The Prime Minister is likely to announce a package for the state, which has been reeling under militancy for over a decade now.
His visit would be seen as an opportunity to address the concerns expressed by "certain section" of people about the fairness of elections.
Prime Minister`s sojourn in the mountain resort of Manali in Himachal Pradesh was also being rescheduled in view of current security situation, sources said.
Vajpayee, who was scheduled to arrive in Manali for a week-long holiday on May 20, may now go there on May 24, the sources said. Bureau Report
