Efforts on to make army job more lucrative: Gen Vij
Kohima, Nov 15: To address the shortage of commissioned officers in the army, efforts were being made to make the jobs, particularly the short services recruitment, more lucrative and recommendations in this regard have already been submitted to the government, Chief of Army Staff Gen N C Vij said here today.

''We have initiated a lot of steps to overcome the
problem of shortage of officers. The basic shortage is because
of mode of entry into short service commission but for regular
recruitment there is no problem," he told reporters here.
The General arrived here yesterday on his two-day visit to Nagaland and Manipur and reviewed the security environment with local army commanders besides, meeting Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and representatives of apex tribal council Naga Ho Ho.
Gen Vij said a slew of recommendations had already been placed before the government to make the short services more attractive by recruiting the officers for much longer tenure.
''At the end of it the package must be more lucrative for them so that the jobs provide them more financial security. I am sure most of the recommendations will be accepted by the government,'' the General said.
