New Delhi, July 16: A Delhi court today began
day-to-day trial proceedings in the Rs 64 crore Bofors pay-off
case and said it would hear arguments on framing of charges
against the accused persons in a day or two.
Today was the first day of hearing in the trial court
after the Supreme Court directed resumption of the trial
proceedings in the case while staying a Delhi High Court order
quashing the chargesheet against the three Hinduja brothers.
Resuming the hearing, Special Judge Prem Kumar said the
arguments on framing of charge would begin in a day or two
after he decides upon the application of Hinduja brothers
seeking supply of some documents by the CBI.
CBI had opposed the application on the ground that the documents were sensitive in nature.
Last week, the Supreme Court had stayed the Delhi High Court order quashing CBI chargesheet against the three Hinduja brothers and had directed continuance of the proceedings before the trial court The apex court had fixed July 29 for further hearing in the case.
High court judge, Justice R S Sodhi had on June 10 quashed the chargesheet filed against the Europe-based Hinduja brothers - Srichand, Gopichand and Prakash Chand - saying CBI did not have the mandatory clearance from Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) prior to filing of the chargesheet as mandated by the supreme court in vineet Narain judgement.
However, the apex court had observed that Vineet Narain judgement was not applicable to this. Bureau Report
