Sydney, Sept 19: Australia's big decision ahead of next month's two-Test cricket series against Zimbabwe is the choice between batsmen Damien Martyn and Martin Love, chief selector Trevor Hohns said today. Martyn was established in the Australian batting lineup before he missed the Test series wins over West Indies and Bangladesh with a broken hand.
Martyn broke his hand while batting in Australia's victorious World Cup campaign in South Africa in March. He returned to the Australian one-day team and scored an unbeaten 92 against Bangladesh last month and has been in great form for English county Yorkshire, scoring 238 this week.
But Love strengthened his hopes of holding on to his position in the top order with an unbeaten 100 in the last Test against Bangladesh. Hohns said his panel had a tough choice between the pair for the Tests against Zimbabwe.
The selectors convene in a week to name a 12-man team for the first Test in Perth from October 9-13.
Australia usually chooses an extra bowler in its 12, but Hohns today did not rule out naming both Love and Martyn. Bureau Report
