With Uttar Pradesh chief minister Rajnath Singh required for state-wide campaigning, his wife and two sons are leading from the front in the poll campaign in this key constituency to see the BJP leader through in the elections.
Leading three separate teams of family friends and party functionaries including his wife Savitri Singh and sons Neeraj and Pankaj are touring about ten to twelve villages daily.
Putting 'bindis' with lotus (BJP symbol) on the foreheads of women, Savitri Singh politely seeks their votes and support for their Bhaiya (Rajnath Singh) who was elected from here in the bye-election last year.
Concentrating specially on the villages dominated by the minority community and which were perceived to have not backed the BJP in the bye-election last year, Savitri Singh is seeking the vote for the bjp nominee and her husband and not for the chief minister. I had been involved in the campaigning in all the elections that he had contested in the past but this time the spotlight is on us because the people are looking up at me as the wife of the chief minister, she said.
The main problem in the constituency believed to be facing the BJP was that the electorate wanted a direct contact with the family of the chief minister without the presence of the middlemen or power brokers.
