Head of Pakistan's pro-Taliban Jamaat-e-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmed, against whom Pakistan police has registered a case of sedition and was put under house arrest, on Monday denied having asked the army to revolt against President Pervez Musharraf for his support to US-led military action against Afghanistan. Ahmed has been campaigning for Musharraf's resignation for the last few weeks.
Asked whether this meant a revolt by the armed forces, he said I have not asked the army to revolt. I have asked the people of Pakistan to demand his resignation because Pervez Musharraf has got no constitutional basis and he is a self-imposed President of Pakistan. I have asked all the people including the armed forces, that they should become united against the foreign aggression, he said referring to the American bombing in Afghanistan.
Police registered a case of sedition against Ahmad for making a provocative speech at an anti-us rally in North West town of Maradan on November 2.
