Chandigarh, May 07: The Punjab government would replace 200 old buses in a phased manner at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Transport Minister Tej Parkash Singh stated this here today. He told reporters that the government had launched a campaign to stop plying of unauthorised passenger vehicles, including cars, jeeps and matadors as taxis. Under the campaign, action was initiated against 6563 vehicle owners and 874 vehicles were impounded between November 2002 and March 2003. Rs 79 lakhs was recovered as compounding fee during the period, Singh said.
