Mumbai, Jan 10: Imran Rehman Khan, arrested under Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) for his alleged complicity in the Ghatkopar bomb blast, was today remanded to police custody till January 17 by a special court here. Khan, alleged mastermind behind the blasts, was deported here from Dubai and arrested last night after an Air-India flight landed at the international airport.


Amidst tight security, he was produced in burkha before designated judge A P Bhangale, who allowed him an interview with his lawyer but refused him facility of home food and a meeting with his wife.

To a query by the court, the accused said he was innocent and added that he had no complaints against police.


The judge directed prosecutor Rohini Salian to file a report on efforts made by the state to trace the absconding accused Khwaja Yunus Sayeed who escaped from police custody on January 7. He also asked the police to explain under what circumstances had the accused escaped from their custody.


The judge also allowed the prosecution plea to handcuff Khan.

Police got hold of cell phone numbers from the other accused arrested in this case. It was learnt that they were in touch with khan on these numbers. Later it was discovered that khan hailed from Chennai and police obtained details about him from his passport records.
