Beijing, May 15: Diamonds worth around one million USD have been stolen from the 4th Shanghai International Jewellery fair, the state media reported today. The stolen stones were processed diamonds of superior quality, a spokeswoman of Shanghai Public Security Bureau, Chen Rongrong said.
A news channel reported earlier that the diamonds were owned by a company in East China's Shandong province.
Police said the diamonds were stolen around evening on Thursday when the exhibitor was busy gathering its products into a backpack to move to another exhibition site. Meanwhile, four visitors who were inspecting the diamonds, disappeared with them within minutes, said the report, quoting the exhibition staff. Bureau Report
