The Material Girl had her cake and ate it last week, when Madonna celebrated her 43th birthday on stage at a concert in Miami, Florida.
Her British husband, film director Guy Ritchie, surprised her with a birthday cake and a kiss while her supporting dancing team and the audience sang "Happy Birthday" to the star. The queen of re-invention has been big news for almost two decades but she hinted recently that she is going to stop touring when this latest round of concerts comes to an end. She will continue recording however. Nearer on the horizon, however, is the prospect of working with Guy. They are about to remake Lina Wertmuller`s 1975 Italian language saga, "Swept Away" together. In the film the pop superstar will play Raffaella, a rich woman who goes on a yachting vacation in the Mediterranean and becomes romantically involved with a communist sailor after they are shipwrecked, according to a spokesperson at Ritchie`s production company, SKA Films.
Madonna`s spokesperson, Liz Rosenberg, also confirmed the star`s participation in the project.
Ritchie has directed his wife in her video for "What It Feels Like for a Girl" and in "Star," a short for BMW`s Digital Film Series. Madonna made a movie with her first husband, actor Sean Penn, as his co-star in the 1986 dud "Shanghai Surprise." She has also starred in films such as "Desperately Seeking Susan," "Who`s That Girl?," "Evita" and her most recent project, "The Next Best Thing." "Swept Away" may begin shooting in the fall, according to Daily Variety.
Despite being a forty-something, her reign as the queen of pop goes from strength-to-strength. Indeed, her current Drowned World Tour is sold out.
