Agra, April 29: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav today said no government could be formed at the Centre after the Lok Sabha elections without the support of his party and accused Congress of pursuing policies that helped BJP to come to power. Speaking to reporters after addressing an election meeting at Kuan Khera, some 20km from here, he said the people should strengthen the hand of SP so that it could reach a respectable position in the Lok Sabha and be able to influence policies there for the benefit of Uttar Pradesh.
Yadav charged that congress had been pursuing policies that had brought the BJP to power at the Centre and said only Samajwadi Party had the guts and ability to defeat BJP.
It is Samajwadi Party that had relegated the BJP to the third spot in up in the last assembly election, he claimed.
Yadav criticised the Prime Minister for saying that BJP was ideologically close to Samajwadi Party and said this was being done to "mislead" the people.
Replying to a question, he said he was surprised at the call issued by the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid of Delhi that Muslims vote for BJP. Had the call been issued in favour of some other party, it would have had some effect.
He said such statements were not expected from a responsible person like the Shahi Imam. The Muslims know that the SP alone was their "real friend," Yadav claimed.
