Kathmandu, Nov 18: Eight Maoist rebels were among 12 people killed in fresh violence in different parts of the Himalayan Kingdom.
Four rebels were killed in an encounter with security forces in the jungles of Bhotang and Manekharkha while three Maoists were killed yesterday in an encounter at Nepaltar of Udayapur district, the ‘Kathmandu Post’ reported today.
Another rebel and a police personnel died when Maoists attacked a contingent of security forces guarding a telephone tower in Bhojpur, the report said.
In another incident, insurgents kidnapped and later killed two workers of the Nepal Sadbhavana Party in Shripur, the report said adding the bodies of the duo were found on the banks of a river yesterday.
A group of rebels shot dead a bank guard in broad daylight in Tikapur, the report said.
In Hetauda, a group of armed rebels stopped trucks filled with food grains heading towards Narayangadh from Hetauda in the evening, overpowered the drivers and escaped with foodgrains and edible oil worth Rs one million.
