Mumbai, Aug 22: HDFC Bank Ltd has introduced a facility for debt and credit card holders to make payment through mobile phones at point of sales (PoS) terminals in the country even as private sector bank plans to add 4,000-5,000 PoS in the next few months. "When the card is swiped the transaction is directly carried through Reliance CDMA network to HDFC Bank switch linked to Visa and Mastercard gateways for authorisation of transaction", the bank managing director Aditya Puri told reporters here today.
HDFC has tied up with Sangamdirectsm, a supermarket service initiated by Hindustan Lever Ltd and Pizza Hut franchisee for the commercial launch of this mobile payment service, he added. Card holders would not be required to use this facility, he added.
On bank's PoS, he said currently HDFC Bank has 25,000 terminals across more than 200 cities and would add upto 5,000 POS in next few months. He, however, declined to elaborate on which cities would be roll out plan. Bureau Report
