Islamabad, June 09: Pakistan today lodged a protest with Afghanistan over the "throwing" of bodies of Taliban rebels into Pakistani territory by Afghan soldiers few days ago and warned that refusal to take back the bodies may spark tension in the border areas.
Afghan soldiers threw 22 bodies of Taliban rebels into Pakistan territory at Spin Boldak this week.
The protest was lodged after Afghanistan's ambassador Naunguyalai Tarzi was summoned to the foreign office here.
"Pakistan today handed over a demarche to Afghan ambassador over throwing of twenty-two dead bodies of Afghans on Pakistan side who were killed near Spin Boldak in Afghanistan to show that they were Pakistanis," Pakistan newly appointed foreign office spokesman, Masood Ahmed Khan said.
The bodies were reportedly thrown into Pakistan territory out of "anger" by the Afghan soldiers, who allege that Taliban rebels were taking shelter in the border areas of Pakistan.
Khan said these dead bodies were recognised by their Afghan relatives and returned back. Pakistan had refused to accept the bodies, saying they are not Pakistanis.
"The throwing of bodies inside Pakistani territory was provocative as it was the (result of) internal fighting in Afghanistan," Khan claimed.
About 40 suspected Taliban and six government soldiers were killed in the fighting that lasted more than six hours, according to district chief said Fazaluddin Agha.
