Tokyo, Nov 20: Screaming fans have welcomed Hollywood star Leonardo Di Caprio as he arrived in Japan for a press conference and the screening of his latest movie "Gangs of New York". Police held back hundreds of screaming fans who were waiting at Tokyo International Airport on Tuesday (November 19) to catch a glimpse of Leonardo DiCaprio. And on Wednesday (November 20), dozens of journalists and cameramen turned up for a news conference with the Hollywood star and Martin Scorsese, the director of his new movie "Gangs of New York". The two were in Tokyo for the premier of the film in Japan which is due to take place on Thursday (November 21). The tale which follows the rise of Irish and Italian gangsters in 1860's New York, is due to open in Japan on December 21.

DiCaprio, who plays the part of Amsterdam Vallon, the son of a murdered gangleader in the movie, said he was thrilled to work with Scorsese.

"Mr. Scorsese is I think the great American master as far as film makers is concerned. And it has always been a goal of mine, I think, much like any other actor in the business, to work with him," he said.

Scorsese told the news conference one of his favourite scenes in the film was the love scene between Di Caprio and Cameron Diaz, who plays the part of an accomplished pickpocket.

"I like very much the love scene between Leo and Cameron where they...(laugh)" said Scorsese.

"Some of the love scenes were not quite as gentle as the ones I have been used to in the past and Cameron Diaz and I have a relationship in the movie which is very passionate and also filled with alot of rage as well. We had one particular scene where she was supposed to slap me in the face and I have to be honest I think it was my first time really getting slapped really hard," added DiCaprio.

"Gangs of New York", may not be the only place to see DiCaprio and Scorsese working together.

"As for future plans, Leo DiCaprio sent me a script which I liked very much called the "Aviator," said Scorsese, when asked about what he would like to do next.

"It's the story of young Howard Hughes in Hollywood and it was a book that I read about eight years ago and developed and we finally came up with a great script and it looks like we are going to be shooting it from March of next year," said DiCaprio.
