Nawada, Apr 03: A member of notorious Ashok Mahto gang, eluding police dragnet for the last 20 years, was arrested along with 9 others during raids at different places under Warsaliganj police station of Bihar's Nawada district last night, a senior police official said here today. Terming Sharda Yadav's arrest as a major achievement for the police, Nawada SP Bachhu Singh Meena told a news agency that Yadav and other gangsters were wanted in several cases of murder, loot, dacoity, besides massacre of 11 people at Apsarh village of the district in May 2000. The gang had killed a police constable in an attack on a police picket at Masankhama village in Warsaliganj in 1983 and looted three police rifles, Meena said, adding police had been on the look out for Yadav for past 20 years. He said a looted police rifle and seven live cartridges were recovered from the arrested criminals. Armed conflicts between the Ashok Mahto and Akhilesh Singh gangs have claimed several lives over the past few years.
