Pune, June 18: Questioning the decision of Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Arun Gujarati in disqualifying seven rebel MLAs of the Democratic Front government, leader of the opposition in State Legislative Council Nitin Gadkari today said, “The winning of trust vote cannot be construed as victory of the Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.” Addressing reporters here, Gadkari said, “The Speaker had not properly applied the disqualification rules against the MLAs”. Gadkari raised his doubt as to how Gujrathi could disqualify Vinay Kore, Gangadhar Thakkarwad and Desmond Yates under the provisions of Anti-Defection Law. “ The decision to disqualify the MLAs was not proper because Kore was an NCP supported independent, Thakkarwad was a member of Janata Party, whose total strength was two and Desmond Yetes was a Governor nominated MLA,” he said.
