Kolkata, Apr 09: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee today slammed US for waging war against Iraq in the presence of the country's consul general George Sibley. Speaking at the annual session of CII here, Bhattacaharjee described the US attack on Iraq as "unjustified" and pointed out that America had an eye on Iraqi oil reserves for which it had waged war against the Gulf nation.
The chief minister, who is also a member of CPI (M) politburo, said Pentagon was spreading a myth that Iraq was having weapons of mass destruction, which according to him, was merely an excuse to attack the country. He said Parliament had already condemned the attack and added that US should immediately stop strikes against Iraq.
Speaking at the session on `Re-positioning the East', the chief minister said the eastern region of the country has vast mineral resources which is yet to be tapped. He said that the eastern region was the natural gateway to South East Asia for the area should be repositioned so as extract maximum advantage.
