Kokrajhar, Feb 16: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) today gave a formal burial to their long-standing demand for a separate 'Bodoland' following signing of the agreement with the Centre on the creation of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
"The BTC set up would fulfill the hopes and aspirations
of the Bodos and other people of the region ensuring all
political as well as socio-economic rights", ABSU president
Rabiram Narzary told reporters here.
The ABSU urged the Centre and state to implement each and every clause of the BTC accord which was recently signed in letter and spirit, he said.
The student body, he said, would play the role of a watchdog and a "vital role" in the formation of a political party.
Earlier presiding over the open session of the ABSU here, Narzary urged the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) to come forward for negotiation stating this was the right time with the signing of the BTC accord.
Narzary was re-elected president while Rwnswra Narzary was elected secretary. Bureau Report
