Venus and Serena Williams have rewritten the history books by being named one and two in the latest WTA rankings list. It is the first time sisters have filled the top two positions and means they should be seeded on opposite sides of the draw for Wimbledon.

Despite losing the French Open final to Serena, Venus moved into the number one spot and has a 279-point lead over her younger sister.

Previous number one Jennifer Capriati, beaten by Serena in the semi-finals at Roland Garros, dropped to third while another American, Monica Seles, moved up to fourth.
In the men`s ATP Tour rankings, French Open winner Albert Costa climbed 14 places to eighth, the first time since 1997 that he has been in the top 10.
Fellow Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero, who dropped out of the top 10 last month, moved up two spots to ninth by reaching the final at Roland Garros.
US Open champion Lleyton Hewitt, a fourth-round loser in the French Open, stayed at number one in the rankings.
In the ATP Champions Race, based on 2002 results, Costa now lies second to Marat Safin, with Andre Agassi in third. Bureau Report
