Brisbane, Nov 03: England stroll to victory over Uruguay in Rugby World Cup Pool C match Fullback Josh Lewsey led the way with five tries as England turned on the style to thrash Uruguay 111-13 in their final World Cup pool C match on Sunday (November 2).
England, starting with probably only three of Clive Woodward's first-choice team, produced some superb high-speed combinations in the backline to rip through the Uruguayan defence. They scored 17 tries, Paul Grayson converting 11 as England posted their best-ever World Cup score, eclipsing the 101-10 win over Tonga in 1999.
Winger Iain Balshaw showed great pace in a 50 metre sprint for his first of two tries but was later carried off on a stretcher with an ankle injury that may threaten his involvement in the rest of the tournament. In all England scores six tries to lead 42-6 at the break but Uruguay then had their reward for persistence when prop Pablo Lemoine barrelled his way over for only the second try conceded by England in the tournament.

Lewsey linked with Lawrence Dallaglio for the full back's fourth try to make it 78-13 as England continued to build on their lead and Jason Robinson claimed his second try after a 50 metre burn-up down the touchline.

England coach Clive Woodward does not often smile but even he grinned at England's easy win.

The victory confirmed the European champions as the winners of pool C, sending them through to a quarter-final on the same ground next Sunday against the losers of the tournament's final pool game, New Zealand against Wales who were playing later.
