New Delhi, Apr 24: The Ansals, owner of the Uphaar Cinema Hall, today reacted cautiously to the Delhi High Court judgement directing them to pay 55 per cent of the compensation awarded to kins of the victims and those injured in the fire tragedy here in June 1997.
"I have not yet read the judgement and only after going
through it could make suggestions to my client whether to
approach the Supreme Court," advocate R S Puri, who appeared
for the Uphaar theatre in the case, said.
Puri, however, expressed dissatisfaction on the direction
asking Ansals to pay 55 per cent of the compensation saying
as per the findings of the court, Delhi Vidyut board has been
found "equally negligent".
Even otherwise, the punitive damage should have been equal
for all the respondents which included the theatre owner, DVB,
MCD and the licensing authority of Delhi Police, the counsel
said.
