New York, Oct 30: Despite concerted efforts being made by the United States and other major countries, the scourge of terrorism still raises its head across the world, Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat has said.

Terrorism is a major problem facing the world community and requires a coordinated international effort to eradicate it, he said at a reception organised here in his honour yesterday.
The Vice President said, “India had been experiencing terrorism for last several years but it is impossible for any single country to fight this menace alone.”

India, he said, knows what terrorism means and is doing its best to eradicate it. But the menace requires all peace loving people to join the fight against it. In an brief interaction with press, Shekhawat declined to take any political questions, saying as Vice President, he would not like to express his views on political developments in a country when he is on foreign soil.

Shekhawat, who is here for medical check and treatment, had only limited engagements. He visited 'Ground Zero,' the site where twin towers stood before the September 11 terror attacks and paid homage to about 3,000 people, including some 100 Indians, who perished on that day. On what Non-Resident Indians could do for the country, Shekhawat said it was for them to decide. They could help in bringing investments, setting up industries which provide employment and other ways they are capable of.
