The collection's curator says it's a world first to have so many diamonds like this together in the one place. Dr. Jeffrey Post, Curator of the National Gem Collection, (English) said, "We think of this as really an historic exhibition and for these three months it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these together and we're not aware of any other public exhibition that has brought together the finest example of each of these kinds of diamonds in one place."

Many of the diamonds have been worn by celebrities, like Hollywood superstar Halle Berry, who wore the orange so called "Pumpkin Diamond" when she won an Oscar last year.

The largest in the collection is the De Beers Millennium Star, weighing 203 carats, it took three years to cut as it was considered so rare and important.

In the past thieves have unsuccessfully tried to steal some of these diamonds while they were on display at the Millennium Dome in London.

Any attempts made here are also likely to fail with security at it's highest to protect these priceless Gems.
